Prof. Rachel Hall, FRCA Consultant Anaesthetist

Dr Hall graduated from the London Hospital (now the Royal London) in 1970, she trained at the London Hospital, the Middlesex Hospital and its' associated hospitals. In 1974 she obtained a fellowship and fellowship prize in anaesthesia.
She has worked alongside Stephen Copeland since 1979, developing anaesthesia and pain management techniques which complement The Reading Shoulder Unit research and development into Shoulder Surgery. New techniques have included plexus block, plexus infusion and the use of wound infusions in major surgery.
Her other interests include anaesthesia for day surgery (using total intravenous techniques), regional anaesthesia and pain management in short stay surgery. She has been Executive Medical Director at the Royal Berkshire Hospital since 2001.
Dr Atul Kapila MBBS, FRCA Consultant Anaesthetist

Dr Kapila has been a Consultant in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care at The Royal Berkshire Hospital since June 1996. He works with a group of fourteen Consultants in Anaesthetics and six Consultants in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
He specialises in three clinical areas, general and regional anaesthesia for shoulder surgery, intensive care medicine and anaesthesia for vascular surgery. Other interests include difficult airway management and pharmacokinetics, together with a continuing interest in research projects both in anaesthesia and intensive care. His main non-clinical role is in medical education, having been Royal College of Anaesthetists tutor for 5 years he is now Regional Advisor for training in intensive care medicine since January 2002.
Dr Warren Fisher, FRCA Consultant Anaesthetist

Dr Fisher graduated in medicine in 1989 from Bristol University and after short periods working in accident and emergency, and in New Zealand, commenced a career in anaesthesia. A consultant in anaesthesia since 1998, he has worked as a consultant senior lecturer at St Georges Hospital Medical School; as a consultant in Cambridge; and now as a consultant in Reading where his interests include regional anaesthesia, particularly for shoulder surgery, and paediatric anaesthesia. His normal workload involves anaesthesia for shoulder surgery with Mr Levy during which he performs around 100 nerve blocks per annum. He is also clinical director of anaesthesia for the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.
Dr Ian Rechner MBBS, FRCA Consultant Anaesthetist

Dr Rechner has been a Consultant at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation hospital since 2005. He works there with a group of 21 Anaesthetists and is one of the 7 Intensive Care Specialists. He underwent training at University College London, Oxford and Brisbane Australia. Dr Rechner's main areas of specialization are general and regional Anaesthesia for shoulder surgery, paediatric, urological and vascular surgery. Intensive Care medicine makes up a large part of his job plan at the Royal Berkshire hospital. His main non clinical roles are as the tutor for Intensive Care Medicine and Clinical governance lead for the Intensive Care. His main research area is early recognition and management of the acutely ill patient.
